My Kind of Christmas is the third studio album by the American recording artist Christina Aguilera. It was first Christmas album released on October 24, 2000 by RCA Records.

Background and Composition[]

While "The Christmas Song" was recorded during her debut album sessions, all of the other songs from My Kind of Christmas were recorded while Aguilera was on tour in mid-late 2000. The album was recorded at the same time Aguilera was recording her Mi Reflejo—the albums were released one month apart.

In addition, "Climb Ev'ry Mountain", from the film My Reflection DVD, was recorded for "My Kind of Christmas" but the song remained absent when the physical release became available. The song has yet to be leaked through the internet, or through any other available source. "These Are the Special Times" is a cover of the title track from Celine Dion's 1998 Christmas album These Are Special Times. Aguilera's vocal range on this album is four octaves and semitone. She sings C3 in "Merry Christmas, Baby" as the lowest note. Highest note is G#5 in "Christmas Time" in full voice. Highest whistle note is C#7 in "The Christmas Song".

Singles[]

The sole single from the album, "The Christmas Song", was released in November 1999. The song charted at number 18 in the United States and number 22 in Canada. The music video was directed by Doug Biro and Clare Davies. "Christmas Time" was released as a promotional single in the fall before the album was released. The music video is a performance of the song on the DVD My Reflection.

Critical Reception[]

Allmusic gave the album a mixed review saying: "Of course, My Kind of Christmas remains a holiday album, filled with covers of standards (from "Oh Holy Night" to "The Christmas Song" to "Merry Christmas, Baby") and a handful of obligatory new songs. None of the new songs are knockouts, but "Christmas Time" and "This Year" are pretty solid pieces of dance-pop, even if the marvelously titled "Xtina's Xmas" (easily the best name of any new holiday song of 2000) is a 90-second collage trifle that doesn't live up to its promise. But, hey—filler is part of a holiday record, and there's actually not too much of it here. Instead, it's pretty tight, entertaining seasonal dance-pop. It may not add too much to Christina's catalog, but it does suggest that she may not be a mere one-album wonder."
